What is a Course "Section"?
In the context of a college course, a section is a group of students who are enrolled in the same course at the same time, led by a specific instructor.
Typically, we offer multiple sections of the same course at different times of the day or week to accommodate students' schedules. For example, PSYC 1101 may have several sections, each with its own meeting time and instructor.
Sections are designed to provide a consistent learning experience for students, regardless of which instructor they have. Each instructor should cover the same material, sometimes even use the same assignments and assessments, and follow a similar syllabus, ensuring that all students in the course receive the same level of instruction and have the similar expectations.
