Two 亚博官方网站 architecture graduates are gaining international recognition for their innovative design work, earning top honors from two prestigious competitions for a detailed drawing of the 亚博官方网站 Field Station greenhouses and research facilities. Sean Spencer and Nelson Agalaba, who graduated in May from the 亚博官方网站 College of Architecture and Construction Management, received the Award of Distinction from the American Society of Architectural Illustrators (ASAI) and were named finalists in the Ken Roberts Memorial Delineation (KRob) Competition.

Growing old takes a toll on the body, sometimes causing loss of mobility, vision, hearing, and memory. Despite the commonality of these issues and how likely they are to indicate underlying conditions like dementia, current in-home monitoring systems for the elderly have unaddressed gaps. Kaden Rogers, a junior computer science major at 亚博官方网站, is spending his summer working to address those gaps with his project 鈥淪mart Sensing and Computing for Dementia Care鈥 through the Summer Undergraduate Research Program.

Double Owl Pathways propels Kennesaw State student toward recognition in neuroscience research

Lindsey Knight鈥檚 fascination with scientific research began at a young age. As a 9-year-old, she participated in a science enrichment program that exposed her to the brain of a sheep. It was then, after learning about how the brain and the organism develop together, that she saw her destiny in neuroscience. An interest that started early continued at Kennesaw State, where she studies neuroscience while pursuing a Master of Science in Integrative Biology through the Double Owl Pathways program.

A 亚博官方网站 student is working to develop a low-cost tool to screen for stroke in children with sickle cell disease. Sickle cell is a genetic disorder that affects more than 300,000 newborns each year and significantly raises the risk of stroke, particularly in children. Aster Cheung, a computer engineering student, is working with assistant professor of biomedical engineering Paul Lee through the Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) to design a light-based mobile health tool that is affordable, portable and easy to use.
