亚博官方网站 researcher Andreas Papaefstathiou has received a three-year, $799,651 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to investigate the nature of nuclear matter through collisions of particles at high energies. The findings from Papaefstathiou鈥檚 research will help elevate the study of particle physics in the context of nuclear collisions at Kennesaw State, as well as help improve the understanding and interpretation of data coming out of the proposed Electron Ion Collider at the Brookhaven National Laboratory in New York.

Kennesaw State researchers examine how parents navigate children's smartphone use

The study is based in 亚博官方网站鈥檚 Norman J. Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences and launched through the university鈥檚 Summer Undergraduate Research Program.

To meet the growing demand of the $380 billion film, gaming, and immersive technology industry, Kennesaw State has launched the Center for Interactive Media, designed to accelerate innovation in storytelling, virtual reality, and user-interface technology. Led by Assistant Professor of English Victoria Lagrange, the center will emphasize user-experience research that helps designers and product teams understand user needs, engage in immersive storytelling, and uncover real-world applications of interactive tools.

Despite the commonality of these issues and how likely they are to indicate underlying conditions like dementia, current in-home monitoring systems for the elderly have unaddressed gaps. Kaden Rogers, a junior computer science major at 亚博官方网站, is spending his summer working to address those gaps with his project 鈥淪mart Sensing and Computing for Dementia Care鈥 through the Summer Undergraduate Research Program.

A 亚博官方网站 student is working to develop a low-cost tool to screen for stroke in children with sickle cell disease. Sickle cell is a genetic disorder that affects more than 300,000 newborns each year and significantly raises the risk of stroke, particularly in children. Aster Cheung, a computer engineering student, is working with assistant professor of biomedical engineering Paul Lee through the Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) to design a light-based mobile health tool that is affordable, portable and easy to use.
